Once again man-made waves and surf parks are making appearances in global real estate development news. This time it’s Seaport Village in San Diego with the Port of San Diego releasing public documents detailing the proposals submitted by six development teams on the Seaport Village makeover in San Diego, California. Two of the six proposals include plans for man-made waves.

McWhinney & DJM Capital Partners have included a surf park by Kelly Slater Wave Company within their planned redevelopment of Seaport Village. See more from their proposal below:

In the not too distant future we see…children having their first surf lesson at the KSWC man-made wave park and then returning the next weekend to watch a national surfing competition.

Their proposed Cultural Performance Venue venue would be fully enclosed, but would be designed with flexible and openable perimeter walls facing the Bay and the surf park.

Kelly Slater Wave Company (KSWC) is an innovative wave technology company. The first company to develop a formula that combines cutting edge science, engineering and design, KSWC has created the longest, open-barrel wave that mimics the most sought after surfing experiences found in nature. As envisioned by 11-time world champion Kelly Slater, KSWC was created to elevate the sport of surfing by making it more accessible. The company has developed a world-class, high-performance training center where top athletes can perfect their talent on the best man-made wave. KSWC will also partner with McWhinney + DJM to create a unique experience for amateur surfers, adventure enthusiasts and families to discover the joy of board sports in a recreational destination that embodies an active outdoor and healthy lifestyle that emphasizes exercise and play. The partnership with KSWC provides much more than a world class wave and public recreational experience. The KSWC facility provides endless opportunities to educate the youth and public on oceanography, sustainability and environmental topics in an interactive way.

Also within the Protea Waterfront Development package is mention of a “Surf Club with Wave Simulators“.
