Filipe Toledo, Miguel Pupo, Ian Gouveia, and Italo Ferreira made a pit stop at the Wavegarden R&D center in the Basque Country during the WSL’s European leg.

The Brazilian Storm, with their wives and babies in tow, unleashed some crazy surfing and showed off their aerial antics. With the crystal blue water and perfect barreling waves, the photos and videos from the session are visually stunning. Filipe, Miguel, and Ian were accompanied by their partners and young babies. Ordinarily restricted to watching their husbands surf all day, it was a treat for the girls to get out there and get some waves of their own in this safe environment.
Felipe, being the aerial technician that he is was making The Cove look more like a skatepark. “Filipe was going to air. It’s really good for throwing the tail and even doing air reverses,” said Miguel Pupo, who, himself was unleashing a furry of backside turns.
As most surf fans know, these guys all pretty much travel together throughout the WSL tour every year. It’s very cool to see them get so stoked on surfing a man-made wave. “It’s like a dream, you catch like every single wave and do some big maneuvers. I am so happy to be here and enjoy with the guys.”– Italo Ferreira
Being that the waves here aren’t pounding and full of rip currents, the situation was different for these women during this surf trip. With the help of the guys, they were able to get some really good waves and experience the sport that their better halve’s love so much.
“We got the families here, the whole crew. It’s actually a big party right now,” said Filipe. “And, after we catch about 55,000 waves, the wives are going to go out there and shred it.”
Ananda Toledo described how good of a spot the cove is to learn or improve surfing skills: “It’s a good spot to learn, similar to Waikiki (in Hawaii), even if you don’t know how to surf, you are going to have so much fun. Even with a baby, it’s not dangerous.”

“I don’t surf, I don’t even know how to surf. I tried once (in the sea) and couldn’t even stand up. And, in the pool, I surfed so good,” chuckled Bruna Pupo, elated after her surf session.
The experience of surfing a spot like this with his friends and family had Felipe super stoked on the day: “Such a fun day, a really special day with friends and family too. Even the wives had a lot of fun, they didn’t want to leave.”

Hopefully, this Brazilian Storm blows into the Basque Country again sooner, rather than later.
