Jarvis Earle and Sierra Kerr Victorious at BYD Pro URBNSURF QS3000

The BYD Pro QS3000 presented by Rip Curl and Pirate Life came in hot over on Saturday as NUMBER spectators lined the lagoon at URBNSURF Melbourne with Jarvis Earle from Cronulla and Sierra Kerr from Coolangatta taking home the wins. 

On Saturday 3rd February, over 120 of Australia and Oceania’s best surfers could be seen competing in a never seen before competition URBNSURFs lagoon. URBNSURF Melbourne was the first ever wave park to host a World Surf League qualifying series in 2022 and the 2024 event saw even more males and females carve it up in the Melbourne sunshine whist wave machine, Roary pumped out the perfect waves. 

It was Cronulla based surfer Jarvis Earle who claimed the men’s title and took home $10k in prize money. Jarvis’s powerful and precise backhand performance landed him as the front runner.

Jarvis said, “I’m so stoked to take home the win, it was truly an amazing experience to surf amongst so many talented surfers out in the lagoon.” 

“The atmosphere at the park was pumping and we were lucky to have great weather. Surfing at URBNSURF in the consistent waves is such a unique experience” continued Jarvis. 

Sierra Kerr from Coolangatta, was also victorious at the weekend’s event as she dominated the lagoon to take home $10k in the impressive women’s final. The stand-out surfer dropped some serious heat with clean and concise cut backs. 

“Wow, what a day surfing in the lagoon. It was great to be out in the waves amongst so many supportive spectators. You could really feel the community at URBNSURF and to come up alongside Ellie Harrison was an incredible experience,” Sierra said. 

Alister Reginato from Queensland, and Ellie Harrison from Torquay both finished second in the nail-biting men’s and women’s finals, showing their undeniable skills in every heat as they battled it out in the waves alongside the respective winners. 

Lagoon-side action meant spectators were spoilt for choice in between the competitions with AFL and NRL Legends Nick Vlastuin (Richmond) and Tyran Wishart ( Melbourne Storm) competing in a riveting halftime show, a pumping set by Shimmy DJ, a pop up bar from Pirate Life & Hard Fizz, La Roche Posay Skin Checks, a Red Bull Athlete Zone, a BYD Experience Centre, food from Three Blue Ducks and more.

“URBNSURF is the perfect training ground for competitions such as the QS3000 and it’s a privilege to be able to bring high performance surfers together to carve up the waves. We are so proud to provide the facilities for spectators to take in the action too,” CEO Damon Tudor said.

“The world first event in 2022 was a huge success and we were excited to come back bigger and better this year in the perfect conditions at URBNSURF, congratulations to NAME and NAME who dominated the park and took home the well deserved wins”, Tudor continued. 

URBNSURF worked with Surfing Victoria, Surfing Australia and the WSL to broadcast the event across the WSL website and WSL app. The live broadcast was aired on Channel 7 and the surfing spectacle, supported by BYD, Pirate Life, Rip Curl.
