Press Release from Surf Eye:
When El Nido opens between Punta del Este and José Ignacio, it will introduce a new era for surfing in Uruguay. As the country’s first wave pool, it will offer surfers perfectly engineered waves alongside an experience that has become a new standard at leading Wavegarden destinations: CheckMySurf | Surf Eye.

Developed through the partnership between Wavegarden and Surf Eye, the AI-powered platform automatically captures every surfer’s session using synchronized 6K cameras and advanced computer vision. Within minutes, surfers can access a personal gallery containing every wave, high-resolution photos, session statistics and a personalized highlight reel—all without booking in advance or bringing a camera.
From beginners catching their very first wave to experienced surfers refining technique, every session becomes something riders can immediately relive, review and share.
“Punta del Este, one of Latin America’s most iconic and prestigious tourist destinations, welcomes El Nido, a unique project that further elevates its international appeal. El Nido aims to position Punta del Este as a new global reference point for surf tourism while also contributing to the development of surfing in Uruguay. In the ocean, conditions often make it difficult to capture every session, and some of the best waves end up living only in our memories. Having immediate and consistent access to footage from each session becomes a unique tool to relive, analyze, and accelerate every surfer’s progression”, said a spokesperson for El Nido.
For Surf Eye, El Nido marks another milestone in South America, becoming the company’s fourth surf park installation in the region after Praia da Grama, Surf Center Curitiba and Surfland Brasil. It also joins Surf Eye’s global network, the largest AI camera network in the surf park industry.
“Uruguay has never had a wave pool, and now the first one opens with video built in from day one. Every surfer who paddles out at El Nido leaves with their waves already filmed, edited, and on their phone. That used to be a luxury. We’re making it the default, and it’s the kind of place we love to work with, one that wants the full experience there from the start.“ said Alessandro Fracassi, Co-Founder and CEO of Surf Eye.

A new chapter for surfing in Uruguay
As Uruguay prepares to welcome its first wave pool, every surfer visiting El Nido will have the opportunity to leave with more than just the memory of a great session. Every wave can be watched again, shared with friends, used to track progression and remembered long after leaving the water.
By opening with CheckMySurf | Surf Eye from day one, El Nido is bringing one of the world’s most advanced surf park experiences to a new generation of surfers.
