CHELAN, WA – After three consecutive wins by the Europeans, Team USA finally got its hands on the trophy. At Lakeside Surf’s iconic citywave, Team USA claimed its first-ever Continental Surf Cup title, closing out the weekend 27.75 to 23.25 over a Team Europe squad that came in chasing a fourth win.
It wasn’t for lack of European talent. Germany’s Lennard Weinhold delivered maybe the performance of his career, posting a blistering 19.33 in the Men’s Final to claim his fourth individual title in a row – a genuine feat of consistency on one of the world’s most performance driven citywaves. But individual fireworks weren’t enough this time. Team USA’s depth across every round – Surfing Classics, Standard Heats, and Best Trick – added up to the difference.
The Best Trick session told its own story. Team USA’s international wildcard, Panama’s Jose “Cacaro” Lopez, landed the highest score of the men’s field at 9.23 to take the Men’s Best Trick title in his Continental Surf Cup debut, with teammates Cash Eygabroad and Ben Benson rounding out three of the top four spots. On the women’s side, Cash Hoover was simply untouchable – she took both the Women’s Open individual title and the Women’s Best Trick crown, extending her run as one of the most dominant riders this event has ever seen.
The Men’s Final was the tightest of the weekend: Weinhold’s 19.33 held off Eygabroad’s 18.80 by just over half a point, with Maximilian Lex (18.68) and Lopez (18.40) completing the podium. In the Team Finals, Weinhold and Lex advanced together for Europe, while Eygabroad and Lopez carried the flag for the Americans – a preview of exactly how tight the overall scoreline would end up.
Lakeside Surf drew capacity crowds across both days, and the atmosphere on the banks matched the drama in the water – every heat, every trick, every point mattered right down to the final horn. For Chelan, hosting the Continental Surf Cup has become more than a contest weekend; it’s a reliable draw for visitors, media, and surf fans from around the world, and this year’s team result will only add to that pull heading into 2027.
