- NBA star, Olympic flagbearer and Olympic Bronze medalist basketballer Patty Mills.
- Pipeline Master and current World Surf League (WSL) World #5 surfer Molly Picklum.
- Former WSL World #4 surfer and WSL athlete representative Conner Coffin.
All three have invested in the business, joining:
- Teahupo’o Champion and former WSL World #6 surfer Adrian “Ace” Buchan, who is Aventuur’s Director of Surf and Sustainability.
- New Zealand All Blacks rugby legend and mental health advocate Sir John Kirwan, an Aventuur project partner.
- Elite surfing coach, founder of Micro Surf Academy (MSA) and Aventuur’s high-performance partner, Glenn “Micro” Hall.
“We’re delighted to welcome Patty, Molly and Conner to the Aventuur family. Alongside Ace, JK and Micro, these talented athletes will play a meaningful role in shaping our business, and help us achieve our purpose of improving physical and mental wellbeing,” said Aventuur’s Co-Founder and CEO, Nicholas Edelman. “Having spent time with the athletes, they each bring a unique perspective on surf, and share our vision to deliver authentic sporting infrastructure that can have a meaningful social impact – including increasing female participation in the lineup, providing access for landlocked communities, and developing Indigenous athlete pathways.”
Across North America and Asia-Pacific, Aventuur is working closely with local stakeholders, community organizations, sporting bodies and charities to make surfing more accessible. Anchored by 5.5-acre Wavegarden Cove surfing lagoons, the company’s destinations will also feature high-performance surf academies, fitness and recovery studios, skate parks and complementary training amenities to accelerate skills acquisition and progression.
“Having lived and breathed surfing for three decades, I truly believe in its transformational power, regardless of skill level or background,” said Aventuur’s Director of Surf & Sustainability, Adrian “Ace” Buchan. “As an athlete group, we believe we can elevate this space by breaking down traditional barriers. Together, we can bring the next generation of surf to the world sustainably, both socially and environmentally.”
Designed having regard to sustainability, biophilic and “blue health” principles, Aventuur’s destinations will also offer a variety of spaces for people to enjoy the water, being outdoors, and among nature. Curated hospitality, events and community amenities will support the formation of social and activity groups, and help foster genuine connection between locals, residents and visitors. In doing so, the company aims to make surfing more accessible to the general public, treating it as an approach to daily wellbeing given its physical and mental health benefits, in addition to being a sport and lifestyle.
The company is currently developing two projects, one in Perth, Australia (anticipated opening Summer 2025/2026) and one in Auckland, New Zealand (anticipated opening Summer 2026/2027), and recently announced its programmatic rollout of surfing, leisure and wellbeing destinations in 11 markets across North America.
