IOC to Make Final Decision on Surfing Tokyo 2020 on August 3, 2016

INTERNATIONAL SURFING ASSOCIATION PREPARES FOR GAME-CHANGING MOMENT IN RIO

The International Surfing Association (ISA) has expressed its excitement and anticipation with just seven days to go until the IOC Membership makes the final decision on whether Surfing will be added to the Tokyo 2020 Sports Program at the 129th IOC Session in Rio on 3 August 2016. The IOC Executive Board confirmed its support for Surfing to join the Program on 1st June 2016.

Speaking ahead of the IOC decision, ISA President, Fernando Aguerre, said:

“With just seven days to go until the IOC decides on whether Surfing joins the Sports Program for Tokyo 2020, the Surfing family is filled with excitement and anticipation about this potentially game-changing moment for our sport.

“Our relationship with the IOC and inclusion in the Olympic Games has been a strategic priority for the ISA for many years and we are thrilled to be on the cusp of realizing our Olympic dream. I’d like to express our sincere thanks to the IOC and Tokyo 2020 for providing us with this amazing opportunity.

“We are especially excited for the athletes, including budding stars and current elite surfers who would have the chance to represent their nations and showcase their talents on the greatest sporting stage. We head to Rio with gratitude and hope, fully committed to seizing this unique opportunity for all surfers worldwide.”


La Jolla, California, 27 de julio, 2016 – La International Surfing Association (ISA) ha expresado su emoción y ansia con solo siete días hasta que la Membresía del COI tome la decisión final sobre si el Surfing será agregado al Programa de Deportes de Tokio 2020 en la129a Sesión del COI en Rio el 3 de agosto. La Comisión Ejecutiva confirmó su apoyo de la inclusión del Surfing en el Programa el 1 de junio.

Hablando en anticipación de la decisión del COI, el Presidente de la ISA, Fernando Aguerre, dijo:
“Con solo siete días hasta que el COI decida si el Surfing se unirá al Programa de Deportes para Tokio 2020, la familia de surf está llena de emoción y ansia sobre este momento que podría cambiar el deporte para siempre.
 
“Nuestra relación con el COI y la inclusión en los Juegos Olímpicos ha sido una prioridad estratégica para la ISA por muchos años y estamos encantados de estar en la cúspide de cumplir nuestro sueño Olímpico. Quisiera expresar nuestro agradecimiento sincero al COI y a Tokio 2020 por presentarnos con esta oportunidad increíble.
 

“Especialmente estamos emocionados por los surfistas, incluyendo a los jóvenes que representan el futuro y la estrellas actuales quienes podrían tener la oportunidad de representar a sus países y demostrar su talento en el escenario de deporte más grande del mundo. Iremos a Rio con gratitud y esperanza. Estamos comprometidos a aprovechar esta oportunidad única para todos los surfistas alrededor del mundo”.
