Press Release from Surf Eye:
Surfers Cove will launch Portugal’s first Wavegarden lagoon with Check My Surf | Surf Eye technology, bringing automated AI video, analytics, and progression tools to one of Europe’s most iconic and innovative surf parks.
Located in Óbidos, near Peniche, Surfers Cove is set to become the new surf destination in Portugal’s West Coast, known for world-class waves and year-round surf culture.

Scheduled to open its doors in late 2026, Surfers Cove is designed to cater to all levels, from beginners to pros. By integrating the CheckMySurf | Surf Eye system, the venue significantly elevates the facility’s standards, establishing it as a world-class training ground for surf federations and professional surfers who require precise, data-driven video analysis and immediate replays to optimize performance.
The venue will feature a two-camera Check My Surf | Surf Eye setup, giving surfers automated video coverage of their waves through a system developed specifically for Wavegarden lagoons through Surf Eye’s partnership with Wavegarden.
For Surfers Cove, the integration means surfers will step into the lagoon with video, stats and progression tools already built into the experience from opening day.
For Surf Eye, this installation carries a special meaning. The company was founded in Portugal in 2022, starting at Costa da Caparica, near Lisbon. Since then, it has grown from a local surf video solution into a global AI camera network for surf parks.
Surfers Cove brings that story home.
Every wave ridden at Surfers Cove will be automatically recorded, edited, and delivered to the surfer’s phone within minutes. Surfers will receive high-definition video and photos in multiple formats, individual clips of each ride, and a personal highlight video from the full session.
The system also tracks key session stats, including wave count and ride time, with a full coaching platform coming soon to help surfers turn each session into clearer feedback. Those insights feed into leaderboards, personal bests, and rankings, making progression part of the experience. Automatic surfer recognition connects each clip to the right rider, so surfers can find their waves quickly after the session.
For a region with such deep surf culture, Check My Surf | Surf Eye adds a new layer to the experience. Surfers can ride, review, share, and improve without bringing a camera, asking a friend to film, or booking a photographer in advance.
“Surfers Cove was built with the ambition of delivering the best possible surf experience, from first timer surfers to world class athletes. Portugal has some of the best waves in the world and we were born to complement that with consistency, accessibility and progression. Integrating Check My Surf | Surf Eye from day one is a natural extension of that ambition. Every surfer who enters our lagoon will have immediate access to their session, their improvement, their best waves. This is exactly the level of experience we want to deliver and it feels particularly meaningful to do it with a technology born in Portugal.” said Manuel Maria Vasconcelos Co-Founder & CEO of Surfers Cove.
“Surfers Cove is a full-circle moment for Surf Eye. We started in Portugal with a simple idea: every surfer should be able to watch their waves, learn from them, and keep the memory without needing anyone filming from the beach. Since then, we’ve brought our technology to many of the world’s leading surf parks, but bringing it back home through Surfers Cove feels special. And now, together with Wavegarden, we’re building the next standard for surf parks: a smarter, more connected experience where every wave creates more value for surfers and operators,” said Alessandro Fracassi, CEO of Surf Eye.
Built for Wavegarden. Powered by Surf Eye.
Check My Surf | Surf Eye is the Wavegarden-specific system created through Surf Eye’s partnership with Wavegarden. It brings Surf Eye’s AI video technology into Wavegarden lagoons through a system built specifically for the Wavegarden environment.
The system connects Surf Eye’s AI vision with Wavegarden’s wave-generation technology, making automated video part of the surf lagoon experience from the start.
That integration unlocks features designed around the way surfers move through a session. In-machine screens can show surfers their rides and session stats as they paddle back to the peak. Real-time wave quality analysis can feed back into the machine to help maintain peak performance and maximize wave count. AI safety monitoring can flag distress or possible collisions to lifeguards in real time.
For Surfers Cove, the system brings together Wavegarden’s wave technology and Surf Eye’s Portuguese-born AI video platform in one of Europe’s most important surf regions.
“Our alliance with Surf Eye through Check My Surf reflects where the future of surf parks is heading. It’s not just about generating the best waves in the world, but about creating an intelligent digital ecosystem around them. The opening of Surfers Cove in Portugal is the perfect stage to demonstrate the power of this integration from day one: by connecting our wave-generating technology with CheckMySurf-Surf Eye AI vision, we are not only transforming how surfers analyze their progression in real time, but also elevating operational efficiency and safety in the lagoon.”, said Josema Odriozola, CEO of Wavegarden.
Part of Surf Eye’s growing global network
Surfers Cove is part of Surf Eye’s global network of 22 surf park installations, the largest AI camera network in the surf park industry. The network now spans North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, and includes most Wavegarden pools currently operating or in construction.
Within Wavegarden venues, Surf Eye operates through Check My Surf | Surf Eye, the shared brand created for its partnership with Wavegarden. Outside that partnership, Surf Eye also powers AI video systems at other surf parks around the world.
The Óbidos project adds a home-market chapter to Surf Eye’s global expansion. From Portugal to surf parks across the world, the mission stays the same: make every wave easier to watch, share, and improve from.
