May’s Surf Park Headlines

The surf park industry is riding a wave of popularity, with more parks nearing completion and more destination announcements almost weekly. Meanwhile, surf parks continue to make headway into the mainstream, with prominent media organizations highlighting some of the most popular surfing destinations. 

Here’s a look at more headlines and stories about the surf park industry for May:

Surf Lakes Unveils New Details About Queensland Facility 

Surf Lakes is moving forward with plans for what used to be the company’s test facility. Multiple media sources shared images of the resort destination in Yeppoon, Queensland. The surf park will also have updated technology that can produce waves over 8 feet high and last for rides up to 15 seconds. The company says this will create “a playground of lefts, rights, reforms, and slabs for all ability levels. While benefitting from an aesthetic overhaul, the machine will also be much quieter than the prototype, with the ability to run on renewable electricity.”

Atlantic Park Receives Funding from Virginia Beach

The city of Virginia Beach, VA, says it has approved its biggest private-public partnership of all time with Atlantic Park. The surf park project also has a concert venue and is known for being partly backed by Grammy-winning artist Pharrell Williams. According to Bloomberg, the $350 million project aims to bring in popular music acts along with surfers.
