Shakira Goes Surfing At Spain’s Wavegarden Cove

In the last 6-months we’ve seen a wild amount of surf pool progression, with new clips of new tricks dropping weekly from The BSR Surf Resort in Texas, and the Palm Springs Surf Club. At the same time, surf pools are also attracting attention from the mainstream, by introducing non surf “stars” to the sport. Take Shakira from example. Just the other day, she visited Spain and made a stop at the Wavegarden Cove test facility to learn to surf. In the clip above, from her Instagram, Shakira is visibly stoked on riding a handful of crystal clear, blue wedges in the middle of the Basque Country. And Shakira isn’t the only one. In 2018, NFL QB Brew Brees hit The Surf Ranch with Slater (see below), and PGA star Adam Scott made an appearance at The Ranch in 2019. While surf pools are still a new space, they’re undeniably bringing previously unattainable visibility to the sport. Shakira’s recent Insta post of her surfing has a staggering 3.5 million views. How many of those people are looking into booking a trip to a Wavegarden in Australia or England?
