The Sydney Olympic Park has been years in the making. It is a complete revitalization and rebuilding of the space used for the 2000 Olympics to create a thriving community. The park first made headlines in the surf park space when they announced URBNSURF Sydney would be a major anchor of the development. This past April, URBNSURF opened its doors at its second park. Thousands have already visited the park, but soon there will be even more to see, as developers move forward with the project’s master plan.
Carla Armanet, the CEO of the Sydney Olympic Park Authority, shared a new video on LinkedIn to outline what the project will look like including a vast amount of neighborhoods.
At 2:25 into the video, you can catch the Wavegarden Cove pool at URBNSURF in the Haslams Park area of the development. Nearby developments include parks and playgrounds, as well as a BMX and pump track.
According to Armanet, the masterplan includes:
- Thriving neighborhoods: Up to 13,000 new homes catering to families, young professionals, and everyone in between.
- A green haven with urban parklands: Over 430 hectares of expansive parklands will be conserved and enhanced, ensuring a healthy balance between urban living and nature.
- Enhanced connectivity: Capitalising on Sydney Metro West and Parramatta Light Rail, the plan reimagines the Park for increased density and well-connected neighborhoods.
- More to explore: Seven new outdoor public spaces, a major retail destination, and vibrant community spaces like playgrounds, sports fields, and a library are all part of the vision.
While URBNSURF is just one destination in this massive community, it’s further proof of the power of using surfing as an anchor to new development.
